Dental Sedation
Comfortable, Personalized Sedation for
Dental Care
At First Town Dental, we know that every patient experiences dental treatment differently. That is why we provide sedation options designed to reduce anxiety and create a more relaxed experience. Whether you feel nervous about treatment, have a sensitive gag reflex, or need a longer procedure, our team will help you find the right solution.
Sedation is not necessary for every patient, but for those who benefit from it, it can make a world of difference. Our goal is to provide care in a calm, safe environment so you feel fully at ease during your visit.
Is Sedation
Safe?
Yes. Sedation dentistry is considered very safe when administered by trained professionals in a controlled setting.
At First Town Dental, we carefully review each patient’s health history to choose the best option and monitor you closely throughout your procedure. For most patients, the risk of complications is extremely low, lower than many routine medical treatments.
Your comfort and safety are always our top priorities, and our team will guide you through each step so you feel confident in your care.
Sedation Choices Tailored to You

Gas/Nitrous Oxide
A gentle, inhaled sedative designed to help you feel relaxed, comfortable, and worry-free throughout your dental visit. Administered through a small mask that rests over your nose, nitrous oxide produces a pleasant, calming effect within moments and fades quickly after treatment, leaving you clear-headed and able to drive yourself home. This option is perfect for patients who experience mild dental anxiety.

Advanced Sedation Care
At First Town Dental, we have hospital privileges at the Upper River Valley Hospital in Waterville. Reserved for the most extreme cases of anxiety or for people with physical or mental disabilities, we can apply for OR time to comfortably treat our patients. Here a hospital anesthesiologist and URVH nurses will sedate our dental patient and the dentist and their assistant will perform the treatment.

Take the Stress Out of Your Next Appointment
If dental visits make you feel anxious, sedation may be the solution you need. Our caring team will ensure your experience is calm, safe, and comfortable.
