Dr. Wishart is a Woodstock native who graduated from Woodstock High School in 2000. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with First Class Honours from the University of New Brunswick in 2004, followed by a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology from Dalhousie University in 2006. His graduate research focused on neurological pharmaceuticals, and his work has been published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Current Drug Discovery Technologies, and Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy.
In May 2011, Dr. Wishart received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Dalhousie University. During his four years of dental training, he participated in outreach clinics with the Halifax Regional School Board, completed hospital rotations at the IWK Health Centre and Victoria General Hospital, and undertook a fourth-year elective in periodontal surgery.
Since returning to Woodstock in the summer of 2011, Dr. Wishart has enjoyed reconnecting with the community where he grew up. He participates in local recreational sports, including the softball league and men’s basketball, and has volunteered as a basketball coach at Woodstock Middle School. Professionally, he is an active member of the New Brunswick Dental Society and the Canadian Dental Association, and also serves on the board of the Atlantic Division of the Academy of General Dentistry.
